Bible Summer School for Baby

Some pictures of JoSH on Baby Summer Bible School at Church, July 2011. Papa was in England at that time, so Mama took JoSH to Church to attend these two days bible school. He enjoyed it! Look at his expression!

Joshua made it at the bible school. Good job, JoSH! (He did the colorful part in the middle, teacher did the rest of it ^^)

Baby Sunday School in Korea

First time at Sunday School, Joshua was 5 months old.

In my hometown, there was no special class for baby in Sunday School (Sekolah Minggu untuk Bayi).

The Sunday School was divided into 4 classes:
1. Kindergarten/Playgroup (0-7)
2. Elementary Grade 1 & 2
3. Elementary Grade 3 & 4
4. Elementary Grade 5 & 6

Even though I wrote 0-7 years old for the first class, those who already start to stand up straight or walk were often seen but I hardly saw baby under 1 year old in that class.

It came to my surprise when a Lady at Church came to me and said that there is Baby Sunday School after the 2nd Service at Church. It is for babies from 0 to 4 years old.

With his 2nd name tag. His previous one was Pororo ^^

I came with Joshua and San to attend the Baby Sunday School. There was no chairs in that big room, everyone sat in spaces marked with cartoon picture cushions. Three teachers were on the stage using lots of gesture while singing.

Celebrating 1st birthday of the babies

The Evangelist shared the Words of God and used many pictures while explaining it to the babies and parents.

Joshua loves to be in Sunday School. He will clap his hands when he listens the songs or music. He enjoys meeting his friends, too!

Of course, there were also lots of crying or babies crawling or walking during the service. It was just unavoidable when the audiences were babies. It's parents and teachers' job to control and educate the babies to behave well during the service. It was not an easy task and it does need time. But I think still it is worth in the long run.

Do you have Baby Sunday School at your Church?
Do you also bring your baby there?
What do you think about that?
Please share, I want to hear it from you.
Thanks ^^

Kisah Lucu bersama JoSH - Imitasi

Juli 2011

Tiba-tiba Joshua berdiri sambil satu tangan memegang Mama, satu tangan lagi meraih sendok Mama.

"Tadi kan sudah makan, Nak. Ini makanannya Mama"
Mama pikir Joshua mau makan lagi.

Aem...
"Ma...kasih ya...Ta..pi...pelan-pelan...nyu..apin...nya" sambil molo-molo (mulut masih penuh mengunyah).

Joshua merasa senang, lagi-lagi makanan disuapin ke mulut Mama...
Aem...
"Ma........ka......sih...ya.......Jo...........jo..........."
*mulut penuh ga bisa ngomong*

Resep Masakan Korea - 김밥 (Kimbab/Nasi Gulung)

(Kimbab/Nasi Gulung)
Bahan:
360g (2gelas beras)
500g air
6g (4lbr) kim/rumput laut kering
70g asinan lobak
120g (2bh) telur
80g (1/2 buah) mentimun
80gr daging sapi yang telah dibumbui
Bumbu Nasi:
13g (1sdm) minyak wijen
4g (1sdt) garam
Bumbu daging sapi:
2sdt kecap asin
1/2 sdt gula
1/2 sdt irisan daun bawang
1 sdt garam
1/2 sdt minyak wijen

Cara membuatnya:
  5. Telur beri sedikit garam dan didadar sekitar tebal 1cm, depan belakang panjang sekitar 20cm, diiris dengan lebar 1cm.
  6. Kim (rumput laut) depan belakang dibakar sebentar, lalu kim tsb ditaruh diatas penggulung. Letakkan diatasnya (150g) nasi, setelah dipapar merata tengahnya taruhlah irisan wortel, ketimun, asinan lobak, daging sapi cincang, dan telur kemudian gulung bersama-sama sekitar 3-4 putaran lalu iris sekitar lebar 1,5 cm.

Resep Masakan Korea - 비빔밥 (Bibimbab/Nasi Campur)

Kalau ditanya makanan Korea apa yang kamu ketahui, Bibimbab pasti jadi salah satu Top Five jawaban (menurut aku lho ^^). Saking terkenalnya Bibimbab sampai-sampai dibuat satu pertunjukkan untuk promosi makanan Korea bergaya ala pertunjukan Nanta, namanya BIBAP. Belum tahu apa itu Nanta? Belum tahu apa itu Bibap? Kapan-kapan deh aku cerita ya...(sabar...sabar...^^).

Oops...ketauan deh!

Agustus 2011

Click!

'Oops, ketahuan deh!' kata Joshua.

^^

Haenggungdong Mural Village

The 5th WSK Camp (5)

Next destination after Yongjoosa Temple (read previous post) we were brought to a restaurant for lunch..yoohooo...Apparantly,  it was a special lunch because we would have lunch together with Suwon Mayor. Now I know why we were rushed at Yongjoosa Temple ^^

(Picture credited to Lisa Liang)
Take a picture with Suwon Mayor after a very delicious lunch.
The restaurant is not a big and lux one as the one where we had our Samgyetang dinner the day before. The ambience is homy and humble. You can feel you are in old style of Korean restaurant, but still it is clean and neat.

Entering the first room of the restaurant, I saw many glass bottles, big and small, filled with ginseng and alcohol. I guess those ginsengs have been stored for quite a long time. The restaurant owner has many bottles, not only those on the pictures. Ginseng is healthy for our health but also expensive ^^. The longer you keep the ginseng, the better it is for your health when you eat it.

You can make it by yourself, too. I did a quick search on the internet and found how to make it.

How to make fresh ginseng with Soju:
  1. First you need bottles of soju. Soju is Korean vodka with an alcohol content ranging from 20-23%. They can be purchased at liquor stores.
  2. With fresh ginsengs, place them in a position where the heads face upward. Keep pouring soju until it covers the top of the heads.
  3. Put a date sticker on top of the jar and keep it in a dark place at least for next 6 months. Older it gets, better it will taste.

Our lunch was a tipical Korean lunch with variety of side dishes, tofu soup, bulgogi (beef) and fish. Makgeoli (Korean rice wine) was served, too. I sipped a little bit just to try the taste, didn't finished my full cup of the rice wine. I still had long journey back home after the camp, so I didn't want to collapse because of too much drinking. Besides I still breastfeed JoSH.

The side dishes were awesome. Some of them I never tried before. There were mushroom, radish, peas, green vegetables (I don't know the name), clam, sprout, salted fermented crab, and many more...^^

After lunch, the Mayor guided us to see Haenggungdong Mural Village, located not far from the restaurant. We stopped at a very old building that is still preserved till now. From the blurred painted hangeul on its wall I could see that it was used as a church in the past.

The exterior of the building  was covered with painted small tiles and arranged nicely. The small tiles were painted by the citizens.

The Mayor told us that he also painted a picture on a tile. He pointed to a tile. Can you guess which one? It is the one on the right of blue shirt little boy tile. It is a cherry blossom tree, I guess.

Inside the old building, the rooms is now used as artists' studio. This is one of the studio at level 2.

Picture credited to our 5th WSK member, I forgot from where I took this picture in facebook. Hehe...sorry ^^
Finally the full team pictures, with Suwon Mayor, our guide, Suwon City staffs, Presidential Council of Nation Branding team and all of us.

Yungneung - Geonleung Tombs & Yongjoosa Temple

The 5th WSK Camp (4)

Day 2 of the camp was started by visiting the Royal Tomb Yungneung -Geonleung Tombs.

Yungneung is a joint tomb of King Jangjo (Crown Prince Sado) and his wife, Hyegyeonggung (Lady Hong). Still remember the sad story of Prince Sado? Read it on the previous post.

The Geolleung is a joint tomb of the King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty (Prince Sado's 2nd son) and Queen Hyoui.

The guide explained to us the story of the Royal Tombs. If you see on the map, there are two big eliptical area on the left and right side. The left one is Geonleung, the other is Yungneung.

After the died of Prince Sado, the father buried him in Baebongsan Mountain in Jungnangpo, south of Yangjugun in Gyeonggi-do Province. The son of Prince Sado, King Jeongjo, were very sad when he visited his father's tomb which he thought that it should not be there.

We were guided to see Yungneung, the tomb of Prince Sado. The direction showed us which way to go. The area is equipped with CCTV, also in the tombs' area. I guess to prevent people to enter it and ruin the royal tombs.

On our way to Yungneung.

My cellphone camera could not capture the elegance of the house and tomb.

If you see the footpath to the house, you can see three tiers of path. The highest path in the middle is for the gods, people shall not walk there but the ones on the left or right of the highest path.

Picture credited to Lisa Liang.

The house's interior. It is for holding ceremonies.

The back of the house.

Picture credited to Lisa Liang.
The tomb at the back of the house. There are several animal statues surrounding the tomb. The red fence marks the area and also to remind people that it is sacred land.

After the visit to Royal Tombs, we moved to see Yongjoosa Temple. The temple was built by King Jeongjo for his father who died after being locked in the rice chest.

Yong means dragon. The temple was named as Yongjoosa after King Jeongjo dreamt about a dragon went up to the sky on the night of the completion day.
Yongjoosa temple.
We didn't spend a lot of time here. The guide at our previous visit told  us many detail about the Royal Tombs, that's why we run out of time.

At the gate of Yongjoosa, we found this small rocks. People put rocks on top of the other and wish their pray.
The guide explained the story of Yongjoosa to us.

Some pictures of the temple.
Many people were praying in the temple when we came. Err...I was not comfortable to visit the temple, though. In some temples I visited before, we were told not to take pictures while people were praying on the temple. I can understand that, therefore I didn't take any pictures inside the buildings. A very rush visit to the temple, but I didn't regret it.

See you on the next post!

Last Year in Silla University

Two days before delivered baby Joshua, in front of Global Town (Students Dormitory).
If you remember my posting "Scholarship..." posted last year, as a result of the scholarship, I had to attend Korean Language Course starting the beginning of September 2010.

The placement test was on September 3.
First class was on September 6.
And my due date was on September 11, 2010!

Some people said that due date for the first pregnancy can be later than the due date. But, there are some people who delivered their babies earlier than due date. So, nobody knows when the due date is.

My condition was good so I decided to attend the classes on my last week of pregnancy with one requirement. San should go to school with me ^^. He could sit somewhere else in the same building while waiting for me finishing the classes. We even had our own university orientation after lunch.

It was uncomfortable for me to sit for 4 hours in the class. The lesson was too difficult for me, too, and it required lots of concentration and effort. But Teachers calmed me down and asked me to make myself comfortable preparing for delivery.

Joshua was born exactly on the due date. Doctor's prediction was exactly right!
The next day after I said 'good bye for a while' to my teachers.

The 15th Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Theater Festival

The 5th WSK Camp (3)

When we were in Suwon, that city host a special event that is Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Festival. The theaters were held in special places. Suwon is a unique place which designated as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO.

source: http://visitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_1_1_1.jsp?cid=264395

We watched a theater in a place special stages built on a small river with the background of Hwahongmun.

Hwahongmun is a very beatufully designed water gate. The design show the practical function as well as the beauty of the castle. Clear water flows through the 7 water gates.

Can you imagine that night scene? We were sitting in seats facing the water gate of Hwahongmun with its exterior lights spotted on the building dramatically, feeling the calm breeze and hearing water sound from the water gate and river under our seats, accompanied with your friends or family. Perfect!
The theater performance on that night. Before the stage performance,
the artists walked around the river performing street theater
using 3 meter-high puppets and interacted with the citizens.

WSK members were invited to participate in the theater.

Together they moved the puppet.

Posing after the performance, WSK members and the artists.

A video of the street performance.

If San and Joshua were there with me, the night would be more perfect...

Mom, before and after delivery...

Pic was taken after I recorded my story for Busan e-FM. 2010, August 9.

On the last month of pregnancy I got total 20kgs >.< ,
mostly because of my body was swollen a lot.
Right after delivery, I lost 11kgs on the 5th day.
And lost total 18kgs a month after.
Walking, sleeping, and standing were difficult with my 'big size' body.
You know that in Busan, which 'san' means 'mountain'
you will hardly see flat roads here.
San needed to push me from the back when the road was steep
or when I needed to climb stairs.

Pic was taken by Sam, our friend from Hongkong on the day
we visited Jagalchi Market in June, 2011.

I was almost back to my normal weight.
Joshua was about 8.5kgs at that time.
Many things have changed after I lost that 20kgs, but one things still remains.
San still pushes me from the back when the road is steep or when I need to climb stairs.
Because now I hold Joshua! ^^

Hwaseong Haenggung Nightscape

The 5th WSK Camp (2)

As a result of coming late to the camp, I wasn't able to see the Hwaseong Fortress but at least I could visit the palace inside Hwaseong Fortress. The tour is a night-tour. Again, because I forgot to bring my camera, the pictures quality are not so good.

The palace is a temporary palace where the king took rest in a long journey.

It was also the place when King Jeongjo celebrate the 60th birthday of his mother, Hyegyeonghung Hong. It was a very big celebration at that time. Birthday tteok was served in a very large quantity for the feast.

Even though we visited this palace at night, the beauty of this palace was still can be seen. The palace is the biggest and most beautiful among the temporary palaces in Suwon.

The palace was destroyed in Japanese imperialism, but was restored by the Restoration Promotion Committee. The restoration construction was started in 1996 and was opened to public in 2008.

I found that many important places in South Korea were ruined or burnt during the colonialism of Japan. It is so pity to know that those valuable heritage were destroyed.

I have to give thumbs up to the South Korean government and citizen's effort to restore, re-construct and preserve their heritage. I realize that it is not an easy task to do. You need to do elaborate research and collecting funds for the project. It could not be done without the support from government and the people.

In a corner of the palace, there was a rice chest with a story board next to it. I spent time to read the English version and found the sad story about the rice chest.

King Jeongjo's father, the Crown Prince Sado, when he was 27 years old, the father (King Jeongjo's grandfather) saw that he didn't fit to be a king, so he locked him in the rice chest, starving until he died. I didn't dare to imagine the sad scene. The rice chest is small for an adult size. I left the corner without taking any pictures there.

See the detail of the building! I love it. I love how the colors match each other, the ornament, the details...
This picture was taken from my cell phone. Quite nice, heh!

Cambridge Series - The River

Hai hai hai....

Today I want to share some pictures and stories of the "River cam" in Cambridge.

Cambridge River Tour website says, "For many a visit to Cambridge is a once in a lifetime experience and would not be complete without a traditional punt trip along the famous college backs. We ensure your trip is memorable for the right reasons". And, yes. It was a memorable experience to me.

It costed 12 pounds (20,600 won/168,000 rupiahs) for each to enjoy River cam's view. A punter services who also became our tour guide was included for that much. He seemed understand all surrounding river's histories.

"Let's go punting!".

I went along with four of my friends who also attended the course in Cambridge. They are two Brazilians, one Irish, and one Portuguese. However, there were also three Chinese, a family I think, who enjoyed in the same boat with us.

From picture above, you can see some bridges over the River cam.

The other bridges and some sceneries along the River cam.
It was really a beautiful and very clean river.

A very clean river, wasn't it?

It was a great experience to see some colleges' back. And the awesome cloud....God created it.

I could imagine that there is a great opportunity to be a student there, because they live near to a river. They can just relax to lower their studies' tensions.

See you next week for more photos and stories on Cambridge series!
